Holistic Model
This Living Sky framework provides a holistic model for responsive pedagogy that is inspired by the Circle of Courage by Brentro, Brokenleg, and Van Bockern. The model is grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and learning. This model meets the needs of diverse student populations, both Indigenous and non-Indigenous.
Sherron Burns is the Indigenous Learning Consultant for Living Sky School Division. She is an advocate for Indigenizing education, seeking to incorporate First Nations, Inuit and MĂ©tis perspectives directly into classroom curricula, and broaden cultural and racial understanding within our community. Living in Treaty 6 territory, she acknowledges the importance of the land, our ancestors and the connection to her identity.
Kate Carlisle is the Literacy Learning Consultant with Living Sky School Division, with teaching experience in urban, rural and remote northern settlements. Kate has a keen interest in the history of Saskatchewan and is an award-winning author of two Saskatchewan history books. The "Living the Sacred Teachings" project brings together her love of reading and writing, and commitment to innovative approaches to teaching literacy that infuse Indigenous content and move us toward reconciliation.
